What I Like About This: Here we have one of the best examples of one of the rarest vintage couple photos, one featuring a black couple. Who they were and how they might have navigated life together we cannot know for sure... His manicured hands and the cap worn by the man in white reveals him to be a railway porter (One of the best paying and most highly respected jobs a black man of their day could hold). His partner likely also worked on the railway, perhaps as a dining car attendant or even a conductor, he has an unidentifiable union badge pinned on his jacket lapel. This appears to be circa 1920 which further illustrates the rarity of this image of their love having been preserved and surviving to our day. The gentle embrace, their soft expressions and the casual demeanor of their pose reveals the truth of their loving relationship and that we were always there.
