I've discovered some interesting things about myself as I've grown older

Yesterday, I realized I now have the dreams of men grown old

For most of my life, I've thought car-culture was a silly pursuit

And yet...

This is my New (to me) 1964 Ford Fairlane 500

It's not quite a hotrod Lincoln, but the mag wheels do give away that it's a goer...It's got a high performance racing engine in it, and driving it home yesterday was the most fun I've had in years. Lot's of admiring smiles and waves from folks on the street as I peeled away from intersections with the roar of a very impressive tuned exhaust*.

Now the revelation I experienced yesterday was this... This car is indeed the dream of a man grown old. As I was waiting with a few others who were picking up their dream cars from the dealer yesterday, it dawned on me that every one of us was in our 60s or 70s and as it turns out, I seemed to be the youngest one there. So yes, in addition to the dreams of men still young, I now have the dreams of men grown old as well.

* The exhaust is one of the first things I'm going to tweak on the car, I've never wanted to be that guy you hear coming before you see him. I'll quiet the exhaust with standard mufflers since I'm not going to be racing this car. It's just going to be a Sunday cruiser for me and Husband to enjoy on sunny summer days.
