"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: A historical image of participants at a gay march posing for the noted photographer William Gedney, circa late 1970s. The two black men at the center of the photo were likely a couple and as we have often seen, in photos of vintage couples, one is courageously more open than his partner who has partially covered his face, but in light of the times they lived in, both were incredibly brave. That we have overcome so much fear to arrive at a time when for the most part we can be free to love who we love is the greatest testament to the generations who came before us and fought for our right to be who we are.  We were always there.
