"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: Here we have a remarkably preserved and really quite lovely studio portrait of a vintage gay couple, circa 1930.  Some deniers may want to point out that these two share some features in common and so perhaps they are brothers and not lovers, but a close examination reveals their true relationship. Firstly, the notion of being attracted to someone who looks like you is not a new phenomenon, today we often call it having a "boyfriend twin." So there's no reason not to suspect the same thing in their case here.  Further proof of their loving relationship is found in the carefully executed pose they've chosen. The fellow in the striped shirt sits on the arm of the chair with his leg draped over the lap of his partner, an unmistakably intimate gesture... Also look at the their hands, they together hold the umbrella with each one's fingers gently caressing the other's at both the base and half way up the umbrella. And lastly, one need only replace them with an opposite-sex couple in the same pose to recognize that this photo is intended to portray the prelude to a kiss. Their bravery in wanting to preserve this moment in time in their lives and their love is yet again the proof that "we were always there."
