"The Truth About Love..."

In The Beginning...

It felt just like this

"I am always remembering...

And my greatest fear is that I may not live long enough to forget."

"The Truth Of My Life In Songs..."

"I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free"
Written by: William Eugene Taylor & Richard Dallas

I wish I knew how it would feel to be free
I wish I could break all the chains holding me
I wish I could say all the things that I should say
Say 'em loud, say 'em clear
For the whole round world to hear

I wish I could share all the love that's in my heart
Remove all the bars that keep us apart
I wish you could know what it means to be me
Then you'd see and agree
That every man should be free

I wish I could give all I'm longing to give
I wish I could live like I'm longing to live
I wish I could do all the things that I can do
Though I'm way overdue, I'd be starting anew

Well, I wish I could be like a bird in the sky
How sweet it would be if I found I could fly
Oh, I'd soar to the sun and look down at the sea
And then I'd sing 'cause I'd know, yeah
Then I'd sing 'cause I'd know, yeah
Then I'd sing 'cause I'd know
I'd know how it feels
I'd know how it feels to be free, yeah, yeah
Oh, I'd know how it feels
Yes, I'd know, I'd know how it feels
How it feels to be free

"The Lyrical Truth..."

I've read more than a hundred books
Seeing love mentioned many thousand times
But despite all the places I've looked
It's still no clearer
I'm still no nearer
The meaning of love

"This Is A Love Song..."

A Valentine's Blast From The Past...

When I was a young man, I loved the songs of Dr. Hook and The Medicine Show

When I listen to them now, they take me right back to the troubled days of my youth when I was dreaming of love, while never believing I would know true love. Interestingly, I was never into music television so I had only heard these songs on the radio or on a record I'd buy. I was amazed when YouTube came along and I could see video of their performances and see that lead vocalist and front man  Dennis Locorriere always had founding bandmate Ray Sawyer by his side even though Sawyer typically only sang backup and added occasional percussion accompaniments.

As I've watched their videos in later life, I've felt a certain vibe between them that seems like love. Then I discovered this video where they affectionately sing this hit love song to each other and I wondered was this their brave telling of a secret in plain sight. Sadly, we'll never really know, but it definitely changed the way I now listen to all of their songs that I thought I knew so well.

"The Dreams Of Men Still Young..."

In 2012, this was just a dream...

Don't ever forget how hard fought this battle was...

Those who would steal from us our rights and freedoms didn't succeed in 2025, but that hateful generation hasn't given up on turning back the hands of time... We must be ready to fight again in 2026 and until the last of the haters is gone from the Earth

"The Poet's Corner..."

Love is all there is, it makes the world go 'round
Love and only love, it can't be denied
No matter what you think about it
You just won't be able to do without it
Take a tip from one who's tried

"The Truth About Me In Songs..."

This song is about that phase of love's journey when you've gone through some struggles, maybe a few short breakups, but still find your way back to one another. I remember this time with the beloved one often. It felt just like this song...

For some worrying reason, thoughts of him and this time in our romance have flooded my mind and clouded my thoughts with overwhelming emotions that seem to foreshadow some unexpected change in the unseen cords that have bound my heart to his for nearly two decades.

For Stephen, if he wants it...

"The Truth Of My Life In Songs..."

Last night I laid awake well into the wee hours of this morning, tossing and turning, careful to avoid waking husband. Then around 3 am I remembered what today's date is and then I knew why I couldn't sleep. And I could hear this song echoing in my head...

"I Am Always Remembering..."

This morning around 3:00 am, as I lay awake listening to my husband softly snoring beside me, without warning my mind drifted back nearly 20 years to the sound of another man softly breathing beside me in that same room. Unlike my husband and I, that beloved one and I always retired together. Every night, he and I would climb the stairs together, often hand in hand. We'd prepare for bed and pray together and we'd sleep in each other's embrace. And when we'd make love, it was everything they sing about in songs like this...

I thought about this song as I laid there in the darkness this morning and of how it encapsulates everything I felt on all of those nights as he and I climbed our own stairway to heaven. That our love ended as it did and for the reasons that it did have become the greatest lament of my long life. But alas, as I have done every morning since since that first morning when I knew I loved that man, in my prayers in the darkness of this morning I thanked God that I lived to know a love like that in my life. Despite all the turmoil and turbulence of a life now long-lived, a pleasant tide now brushes against the shores of my memories and now I sometimes can remember more of the good than the bad... and more of the love than the sad.
