What I Like About This: Here we have a couple of happy vintage sailors in their summer whites and we're left to wonder, Are they just good friends or something more...? When I was in the Navy, even in the days before "Don't ask, Don't tell" there were always "couples" in every command. Sometimes it was more obvious than others, but as long as they were careful not to let their relationships get in the way of unit effectiveness and general morale, everyone pretty much turned a blind-eye to what amounted to their open secret. This photo seems be set somewhere in the late 1950s to early 60s which is a bit before my time, but I imagine things were just the same way then too. So yes, while they clearly show their affection for one another, they also seem careful to keep an "appropriate" gap between them at the waist, but their embrace and the looks of love on their faces tells me that yes, these two were more than just "shipmates."
