"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: Here is a scene of love and affection captured between two soldiers in the field during WWII.  I won't comment on what side they fought and perhaps died fighting for... But I will point out that someone took this photograph because they found them to be as beautiful a couple as I do today.  Moreover, their comrades in arms in the background don't seem to be disapproving either, perhaps they believed that if anyone in the midst of war and death could find love and comfort in the arms of another, then let them.  We don't know if these two had a more physical relationship beyond the affection we see here, and it doesn't matter. What we do know is that they love one another, and we also know that "we were always there."
