"Series II Bourla Cafe in Antwerp"
Watercolor
Alvaro Castagenet
What I Like About This: Here is an absolute masterwork in watercolor. The artist, Alvaro Castagenet in my humble opinion got everything right... perspective, light and shadow, coloring and detail, everything, absolutely everything is perfection here. If I could, I would own this work. It's great appeal to me beyond is technical perfection is of course because it is a scene in my favorite subject genre dining, and my guess is that it's a winter scene. When I look at this work, is see bright winter sun magnified by snow cover flooding the scene from beyond the cafe windows. Further suggesting a winter setting for this scene is that in the foreground what I imagine to be a holiday tree can be seen on the bar. In short, this painting ticks off all the boxes for me and I am utterly enamoured with it.
