"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: Here is a hand-tinted photograph, circa WWII of 4 soldiers, or is it actually two couples?  I like to think that it's the latter and these are my reasons why... Then, as now, gay couples tended to socialize with one another. Here I can imagine they thought, "There's strength in numbers, no one will be suspicious if all four of us are in the photo." But nevertheless, if you look closely, you can see all the signs that there is more than meets the eye here. The chap on the far left, beyond having his legs crossed as he does, has got quite an intimate two-handed embrace on his partner's waist, not exactly a "buddy-hug." The other couple here are both giving us a bit of a "gay-grin" with the fellow on the far right completely losing his battle to conceal his. The couple on the right are also a bit of a  May/September couple and if not for love, it's unlikely that these older gents would have socialized with so junior a comrade.  Now the truth is we'll never know if these guesses are right, but one thing we do know is that "we were always there..."
