"The Artist's Corner..."

"Untitled"
Oil on canvas
Johannes Hendricus Jurres

What I Like About This: Here is an untitled painting of a male nude attributed to Johannes Hendricus Jurres, a Dutch painter whose works became acclaimed during the inter-war period of 1920-1939.  This painting is a rarity for its sympathetic depiction of a black man in this era. Done in an impressionistic style featuring bold and yet muted colors and strong brushwork, this painting is filled with subtle details to allure and intrigue the eyes.
