"Vedet in My Studio"
Oil on canvas
Pat Kelley
What I Like About This: I enjoy almost all attempts at art, but I especially appreciate inclusive works like this one. One cannot be certain about the ethnicity of the subject here and his name in the title gives very little clue, but we do see that he is on the borders of being a person of color. Representation of the full gamut of humanity in art, as in all other facets of life is important. Beyond the issues of inclusivity, I like this work for its simple but interesting composition... here we have an "everyday man" in a thoughtful pose that leads you to wonder, "What was he thinking about?" "What was he looking at?" When a painting or any other work of art provokes you to question and wonder such things, it has achieved the artist's goals.
