"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: Circa 1890s. Here we find an unmistakable "couple photograph." All the signs of love are here for us to witness: These lovers intertwine their legs and appear to be holding hands just out of view. The man in profile seated on the stool, looks up to his partner's face with an affectionate gaze enhanced by the slightest of smiles as he rests his hand upon his beloved's lap with a finger extended to caress his partner's arm. The beloved one seated higher up, gazes into the camera with eyes tinged with the worry of revealing too much... and yet we can be sure that when they saw their photograph, they were happy with the result and cherished it as we do today. It shows that their love was real, and for us, that "we were always there."
