"In Memoriam..."

Jonious P. Kitty
"Joni"
Sunset December 27, 2017

Devoted Companion - Beloved Friend

Yesterday was one of the hardest days of recent memory... We said goodbye to the littlest member of our family. Joni was about 14 or 15 years old.

In his old age, our kitty Joni had become quite frail... And although the spring had gone from his step, the glimmer of love never left his eyes. Early yesterday morning when I came down stairs, I found him quite sick and as I cradled him in my arms, I realized he was leaving us after so many years together. I sat on the floor with him and held him and cried for the better part of a couple of hours until it was late enough to wake my husband and the children.

As together we sat around our little friend trying to comfort him, you could tell by the looks on all our faces that we knew the dreaded day had arrived. I had been trying to prepare us for that day for the last year or so as we all watched Joni's slow but inexorable decline into elderly frailty. But around Thanksgiving this year, he'd rallied and even gained some weight and he had become more playful and affectionate with everyone. In hindsight, I don't know how missed that sure sign that his departure was eminent. I saw the same thing with my parents and when I worked in death care, I heard it recounted to me everyday, how just before the final rapid decline, a brief rally of strength and vigor returns, almost as if that last little bit of life had to get out and be shared.

But yesterday, Joni was telling us that his suffering was now too great to hide from us... It was time to make one of the hardest decisions of my life. My husband Ed didn't want to speak of it, but I knew it was the final act of love for our little kitty that he deserved... we needed to help him have a good death. I called around trying to get a vet to come out to our home as I knew Joni would not want to leave the familiar surroundings of home, but the earliest anyone could come would be late in the evening and we knew that was too long to let him suffer.

My husband Ed asked me to take Joni to the vet near our home and although I didn't want to do it, I knew it was the right thing to do for our dear little friend. I left my husband and children comforting Joni to go get dressed. As I did, I put on extra cologne to be sure Joni could smell me and know I was near and I hoped that would comfort him on his last journey. I brought down the new bed he'd gotten for Christmas and he stumbled into it as our boys wrapped him and it in his favorite blanket. I went out into the bitter cold of a bright but bleak winter morning to warm the car and when I returned we were all in tears as my husband and our 12 year old son, Dustin bid him their final goodbyes.

We put a second blanket right over him in his bed to keep the cold away and my 16 year old son, D'Mitris picked him up bed and all and carried him out to the car where he rode on his lap and I slowly drove the couple of miles to the vet's office. Although it was bitterly cold, and it was such a sad occasion, I realized that it was a bright and beautiful day and for a moment or two, Joni poked his head up to take a last look at the world going by. As we drove along through the snow, I played his favorite music (he loved Christmas harp music as much as I do, whenever I'd play it he'd come sit with me and listen too). When we arrived, I left Joni and my son in the car as I went in to make the arrangements and pay the vet's fee.

When the vet was ready for him, I went out and my son carried him in swaddled in his bed. We sat the bed down and when we pulled back the covers, Joni looked unafraid as he snuggled a flower from our Christmas centerpiece that I guess my husband had placed there when I went out to warm the car... the sight of our sweet kitty with that beautiful white flower reduced me to tears yet again as the vet examined him and agreed that indeed his time had come. The vet gave him a shot to sedate him and then left my son and I with him to say our final goodbyes. As we petted and nuzzled him, I don't know if it was my tear or his own that I saw run down Joni's cheek, but he looked relieved and at peace.

A few minutes later, as the vet returned with what I want to believe was a dose of mercy and release, I gently kissed Joni's sweet little head and whispered that I hoped to see him on the other side one day. The vet shaved a little spot on Joni's arm so that he could find a vein and in a moment the injection was done and in another moment, my son and I watched as Joni drew in one last labored breath and then fell still and silent while still nuzzling that little white flower in his bed.

We swaddled him in his bed and brought him back home. Getting out of the car, I took him from my son's arms and I carried him back into his home. I sat with him on my lap next to the Christmas tree and I cried and recalled in my mind all the times over all the Christmases that he'd sat with me there in that chair. When I had no more tears to shed, I rose, leaving him beneath his blanket in his bed on the chair and I called my son Dustin to come and help me.

As my husband Ed dug a little grave in the back yard, Dustin and I built Joni a sturdy little pine box. I lined it with his favorite blanket and then alone with him, I lovingly placed him in it and gazed upon the face of my sweetest little friend for the last time before I screwed down the lid and brought him upstairs again.

My husband and I carried him out while our boys looked on from the windows. I finished digging the little grave my husband had started in the shade of the pear tree Joni loved to sleep under on summer visits to the yard. And as my husband lost his battle to hold back his tears and grief, I laid Joni in his grave as my husband said his final goodbye amidst the snow and the cold and the beauty of the clear winter's day. We went in and our home was strangely somber and more quiet than it had ever been in years. After a while, I cooked a meal for our family and when I served it, I put on the Christmas harp music in memory of our lost little friend.

Later, as dusk began to fall, it broke my heart as I watched my husband trudge through the snow to the spot where we'd laid Joni down to light a candle for our beloved little companion. Through the window, I watched that candle for much of the evening and into the night, and as the little flame flickered and danced in the biting winter breeze I remembered all the joy one little cat brought to my life and I prayed that if there is a Heaven that he might be there waiting for us on the other side.

*******

You won't know this, but Joni would sit with me most mornings well before dawn as I'd prepare the day's posts of this blog and so in his honor, I will be in mourning for Joni and on hiatus for the rest of this week... New posts will resume on Sunday. Until then, here are some posts mentioning and featuring my beloved little companion, confidant and friend.

"Reflections On Married Life..."

Yesterday was a lovely Christmas in our home...

Me, I was up at 5 a.m. as usual, and I did something I haven't done in years and years... Joni (our elder cat) and I lay on the floor in the living room under the Christmas tree and just looked at the ornaments and icicles sparkle in the lights.  I haven't done that since I was a little boy. As I lay there under the tree listening to the hushed quiet of an early Christmas morning disturbed only by the gentle purring of Joni, I was transported back to the Christmases of my childhood.

It wasn't until 8 o'clock that anyone else in our home began to stir... First to join Joni and I was my son "Meechie" who came down with a wide grin on his face that said the magic of Christmas had not escaped his teenaged mind.  We laughed and talked about what we might make for Christmas breakfast until my husband Ed (Poppa Eddie) and our youngest, Dustin, who's now 11 1/2 also joined us.  But the opening of presents would have wait until after breakfast...

This is what we've been listening to at home all this Christmas season...

This year's Christmas breakfast was fresh pineapple, scrambled eggs with cheese, sausages, bacon and homemade blueberry muffins (made by Poppa Eddie on Saturday).

As we enjoyed our breakfast and listened to Christmas harp music on YouTube, we all laughed and reminisced about our last few Christmases as a family. Then Poppa Eddie and I regaled our children with stories of Christmases from our childhood.  As we laughed and talked and the boys giggled and made fun of us, we all realized how fortunate our lives are and how we've all overcome difficult circumstances to arrive at a pleasant tide of life this Christmas.

After the washing up, it was time to see what Santa had brought.  Poppa Eddie and I were mean dads this year... the boys both got lots of books and Meechie got his old iPod and cell phone wrapped as a present (they'd been taken away as a punishment a couple of weeks ago).

All in all, the boys were happy with their gifts, some clothes, gift cards, games, etc. Poppa Eddie and I were happy as well, he got a new phone from me and he gave me things that made me smile... candy and soda pop! (Meechie has had me on a diet of late.)

Then in the afternoon, we went to the movies (a bit of a Christmas tradition now) and we saw "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them." The kids and Poppa Eddie enjoyed it, I thought it was okay, but I'm not a great fan of fantasy in the ilk of Harry Potter.

On getting home, me and my little kitchen helper Dustin, worked on finishing the Christmas dinner. This was our Christmas Dinner menu:

Steak Hawaiian
(Delmonico steaks marinated in fresh pineapple puree,
sauteed in butter, served with seared pineapple)
Crispy Potatoes Monterey
Green Beans Almondeen
Hawaiian Dinner Rolls
Deviled Eggs
Assorted Nuts, Candies and Relishes
Fuji Apple Pie
Old-Fashioned Raisin Pound Cake
All-Butter Spritz Cookies

The boys' Uncle William (my older brother) joined us for dinner and we all had a merry time (including Joni who loved his steak trimmings).  After dinner, we all sat and talked around the tree and the boys showed their uncle their gifts and we laughed and made merry until we were all tired.

After I dropped my brother off home, it was all I could do to bathe and climb into bed... another Christmas had arrived at a pleasant end. As I began to drift off to sleep, I reflected on some fifty Christmases past and how for most of them, I never believed that the life I have now could ever be possible...

It got better!

"Merry Christmas From Joni..."

Our cat Joni wanted to do a post this Christmas. So here it is.

BTW: It was on this date in 1818, that Franz Gruber composed "Silent Night" which would go on to become one of the most beloved Christmas songs of all time.

Joni is right, there's nothing cuter than a kitty at Christmas...

"Reflections On Married Life..."

"Marriage is not a single event but rather a developing process, which is not to be undertaken recklessly or irresponsibly but rather maturely and honestly.  Marriage is the faithful union between two persons the result of which is the formation of a family unit whose members shall help, support and enjoy each other in good times and in bad times..."

- From the pronouncements of our wedding vows, April 8, 2011

Some who faithfully visit this blog have noted that over the last couple of weeks my posts have been few and far between.  The reason has been that I've been attending to my husband who recently had open heart surgery.  He is home now after a lengthy hospital stay and I am taking some time off work to care for him as he recuperates.

Sickness is the test of love's promise and after many days and nights divided between work, caring for our children and sitting at my husband's bedside in the ICU, I can say that love's promise is real and that our marriage is now stronger than ever.

Photos of our sons Dustin and D'Mitris (holding Joni Cat)
that I took for Edward during his hospital stay

Edward's progress has been slow (more than twice the normal hospital stay) and he's still pretty weak and fragile, but now that he's home, between me and the kids (and Joni Cat), we'll nurse him back to health.

"Reflections On Married Life..."

What a hectic and incredible week we've had here at the Flournoy-Cummings'!

On December 22, our foster son Dustin joined our home...  He is the sweetest and smartest little 9 year old that you'll ever meet.  And as is the case with almost all foster children, he comes to us from tragic circumstances and I suspect that is what makes his responses so precious as you do little routine things for him and he expresses such sincere gratitude... He's hasn't ever taken love, caring and acceptance for granted.

My husband Eddie and our cat Joni, waiting for Dustin to arrive 12-22-2014

Of course with Dustin's sudden arrival so close to Christmas, it upended our holiday plans completely. We had to scramble to ensure "Santa" knew where Dustin lives and could get down our chimney (he sweetly pointed out that we needed to extinguish that fire in the hearth on Christmas eve).

Despite not a lot of time to prepare, Dustin was delighted on Christmas morning by all the gifts and toys that he got. I couldn't thank my sister Lisa and my niece Whitley enough for their help in shopping for him too. And as Christmas is about love and sharing and giving, we of course taught him the joy of giving as he went around with Poppa Eddie on Christmas Eve to deliver gifts of Christmas cookies that he helped make last Tuesday. I have to say, the joy and wonder on his face was incredible to see as we took butter, flour, sugar, eggs and chocolate and made cookies, he said he'd never made cookies at home before.

Over the holiday, we introduced him to the members of his new extended family and everyone gave him a warm welcome to our clan. My brother William joined us for Christmas dinner and we all laughed as Dustin tackled his first Beef Wellington and turned his nose up at brussels sprouts.

This week, as we were enjoying just watching him play with his toys and enjoy the comforts of our home, we got a call on Monday morning asking if we'd take his 13 year old brother as well. After a hurried discussion by Eddie and myself, we asked Dustin if he'd like his brother to join him and of course he said yes.  So last Monday evening, his brother, D'Metris (everyone calls him "Meechie") also joined our happy home.

D'Metris is also a very sweet boy, who will need a little more time to adjust to life in our home and to life with two Dads, but we're sure in time he'll be just as happy as his little brother.  Both of them quickly stole our hearts and even at this early stage, we are sure that we'll be offering them a permanent adoptive home.

We were actually quite surprised when Dustin arrived last week, we really weren't expecting to have any children before the new year because although we've had our foster license for some time now, we were specific about the circumstances of the child(ren) we'd be willing to foster. Eddie and I did not want to experience the heartache of becoming attached to a child that would then leave to either return to birth parents or some other placement, so we were adamant that any child we fostered, had to be eligible for adoption. Both Dustin and D'Metris are in need of a permanent home and they've both said they like us as much as we like them. So at least for now, it seems that our Christmas wish has come true.

Last night we celebrated the arrival of the new year and the boys with a movie and special treats as we waited for midnight together. Just before midnight, I brought out the paper hats, horns and noisemakers and when the clock struck midnight, what a racket we made... I think Poppa Eddie had as much or more fun as the boys did. Poppa Christopher was tired after a day of working around the house, cooking and doing laundry, so I went to bed shortly after the new year's arrival and I left them to savor the fun of toasting the new year with sparkling apple juice in champagne glasses.

Now, I'm up siting with our cat, Joni and writing and wondering what time the rest of our household will rise and shine.  I suspect it will be a couple of hours from now, so I'll just be reflecting on the wonderful joy having children brings to your life.  It adds a spark that nothing else does.  It makes spouses kinder and more loving towards one another. And, it fulfills a desire deep within your heart to love and nurture the next generation. It doesn't matter if you're gay or not, all that matters about having a family is love.

"Happy New Year!"

"Reflections On Married Life..."

My husband, Eddie's season is over now until Spring... With professional gardening being a seasonal occupation, I'm hoping to keep him busy with a few projects around the house this winter.

As for me... Life and, yes death goes on no matter what the day.  So, I'll be at work today dealing with the reality of death and dying even on Christmas Eve.  Although I'll be off for Christmas Day, I do have to go into work on Wednesday, so this year, Eddie and I decided to pack as much fun as we could into Christmas day itself.

Our plans for Christmas so far, include breakfast out on Christmas morning... IHOP will be open and its one of my favorite places.  Then, we're going to see Quentin Tarantino's new historical biopic, "Django Unchained."  Hopefully Mr. Tarantino won't disappoint because at 180 minutes, "Django" will be one of the longest films I've ever seen in a theater.

Later we'll be coming home to a Lasagna for Christmas dinner along with my brother who'll be joining us again this year.  In addition to the Lasagna and some other special dishes, we'll of course be having many traditional holiday sweets including Raisin Cake and Pumpkin Pie and of course cookies.

Here are a few pictures from earlier this week when Eddie and I made Christmas cookies for our family, friends and my colleagues at work.  Although Eddie helped, he was also the photographer, so it's only me in the photos.  Eddie really like to take photos, so for Christmas I got him a really nice camera and all the accessories so that he can explore his creativity in that medium.

Interesting fact: When I was in my twenties, I was a professional pastry chef.

Eddie marvels at what I can do with a pastry bag.

These are Jam Thumbprints (although to be sanitary, I make the indentation with a spoon).

And here are the first of more than 20 dozen cookies going into the oven.

After they're baked, a sprinkling of chopped almonds.

This is my favorite photo of the ones Ed took that day... our cat Joni was "guarding" the kitchen.

An easy finishing touch, a drizzle of chocolate and a dusting of chopped almonds.

Many of my colleagues at work didn't know that I'd been a pastry chef and at first they were convinced that I'd bought the cookies.

Along with their toys from Grampa Eddie and Grandpa Christopher, we also sent some cookies to my son and his family out in Utah.  I mailed them on the 20th so hopefully they'll arrive today!

So, this is married life... its no different for us than it is for anyone else. It's better when you're married.

"The Truth Tonight..."

It'll soon be 3 a.m., I haven't been able to sleep, the pain's been keeping me awake all night. As I lay here alone and weary, I'm remembering all Stephen's promises and in so doing remembered this...

One morning nearly three years ago, we were in bed in each others arms discussing "life, the universe and everything" and our conversation turned to music and I shared with him that I had loved the music of "Roger Whittaker" since I was but a young boy... He responded as many have -- he didn't know of him. Although Roger Whittaker is quite famous around the world, he's not well known in the U.S.

Roger Whittaker is 73 years old now, and he's still performing throughout the world, but I've never seen him in person... That morning, as Stephen and I talked about this, I explained to him that I'd been waiting to see Roger Whittaker with someone I loved, he sings love songs... I told him that really, Roger Whittaker is the only performer I'd ever wanted to see live and in person. To which he said, he'd take me to see him someday. I asked if that was a promise, and he said it was.

Now as I pray for sleep to come, I also pray that as I listen to this song, perhaps in my dreams, Stephen and I are there in the audience...

Both Sides Now
Written by Joni Mitchell

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I’ve looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the sun, they rain and snow on everyone.
So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way.

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now,
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall.
I really don’t know clouds at all.

Moons and Junes and ferris wheels, the dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real; I’ve looked at love that way.
But now it’s just another show. you leave ’em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know, don’t give yourself away.

I’ve looked at love from both sides now,
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall.
I really don’t know love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud to say I love you right out loud,
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I’ve looked at life that way.
But now old friends are acting strange, they shake their heads, they say I’ve changed.
But something’s lost and something’s gained in living every day.

I’ve looked at life from both sides now,
From win and lose, and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall.
I really don’t know life at all.

"Reflections On Married Life..."

I'll be home this evening and Eddie and I (and Joni our cat :-) will carve our pumpkin after dinner and then pass out candy to the kids in the neighborhood.  It should be fun, hopefully it won't be as cold as it has been the last few days.

"Reflections On Married Life..."

"Happy Birthday Ed!"

My husband's birthday was last week, so that morning, I got up early to bake him a cake.  I was once a professional pastry chef, so expectations tend to be high when I say I'm going to make you something.  And although I had a bad toothache that started a few days before, I didn't let it stop me making his cake.  Oh, yeah, Joni (our cat), he helped too, see below :-)

After baking the cake layers, I went in to work for a bit, but left early to go to the dentist.  I came by home to pick up the husband, who wanted to go with me.  I spent almost four hours in the dentist's chair... it turned out that I needed a surgical extraction of an impacted molar that I'd broken while chewing ice (I love to eat ice, don't know why).  I also had a mild allergic reaction to the anesthetic, so this was not a "good" visit to the dentist.

I'd already promised the husband dinner out at one of his favorite restaurants, P.F. Chang's.  So when we got back home, I iced and decorated the cake and then rested for a bit before we headed off to dinner.  I really didn't feel up to being out that night, but I didn't let Ed know that, after-all, it was his special day. So after a few minutes, I got up, changed the bloody gauze in my mouth, put on a brave face and off we went.

When we arrived, I must have been quite a sight to the fellow in the car we parked across from as I reached into my mouth to extract the blood soaked gauze that I'd been biting down on for the last hour trying to get the wound in my mouth to stop bleeding.  But Ed was happy and excited to be celebrating his birthday  and I was happy that he was enjoying himself (I don't think he even noticed me taking the gauze out).

Once we got seated, I was beginning to feel some pain as the anesthetics were wearing off.  So I decided to have a drink.  Ed ordered one too and we toasted his birthday.  Then we ordered a wonderful four course  meal that I wondered how I'd eat.  But when the soups and appetizer came, I managed to lightly chew things enough to swallow... everything tasted a bit salty though, and I realized that it was from the new bleeding void in my mouth.  Nevertheless, we both enjoyed ourselves as we people watched and tried to eat all the food we'd ordered.  We still ended up taking quite a bit of our meal home, as I ate a lot less than I might have otherwise done. But the drinks did the trick, I wasn't feeling anything as we left the restaurant.

Then it was back home so I could sing "Happy Birthday" complete with a missing tooth lisp and a "not quite druken" slur as Ed cut his cake.  The cake turned out really nicely, it was rich and flavorful and it didn't look bad either, especially considering how I was feeling as I decorated it.

And this little reflection I've shared is what love and marriage is all about... It's about caring and making sacrifices and celebrating life.  In my work (death care industry), I've come to realize just how precious every moment of our lives should be to us.  We only get to come this way once, so we should make the best of it that we can.  Live and love honestly and openly, that's what I say. Because...

Dustin and Big Brother Meechie on Dustin's 10th Birthday

Gotta love that, "Do I have to blow all of these out myself?" look on his face...

I love gag gifts, and apparently so does Joni cat...

The look of disappointment on his face is priceless...

The jig is up... this isn't my present!

He sees me with his real present, a brand new laptop computer of his own!

Poppa Eddie and "The Professor" checking out his new machine...

The next morning, Dustin's 1st day of school as a 10 year old!

Our boys bring us so much joy and happiness...

(In case you're wondering where I am, I'm taking the pictures... I made the cake too!)

"The Truth Of My Life In Songs..."

I've often thought that much of my life could be set to music... And if so, this would be one of the songs on the soundtrack of my life...

This track would accompany a scene from my life that I would title: "A Brief Shining Moment*"

"Both Sides Now"
Performed by Roger Whittaker

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
And you leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love
Really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

Oh but now old friends they're acting strange
And they shake their heads
And they tell me that I've changed
Well something's lost but something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life
I really don't know life at all

That "brief shining moment"* was a day in June of 2007. Our love affair was in full bloom and he more or less lived here with me and we spent most every night in each others arms...

On that particular day, everything seemed so right with us and the world... We'd smiled and laughed and enjoyed each other's company over breakfast as we discussed our imagined friend, "Fred the Cat."  Later that morning, as he was preparing to leave for work, he discovered that his car had a nail in a tire, so I told him to take my car to work and I'd take his and have it fixed,  I watched and waved from the front door, as he got behind the wheel and drove off and I was filled with joy that could do some small thing that day for my beloved.

When I got home from work, as I was preparing our evening meal I heard the sound of his key unlocking the front door.  As I washed my hands so that I could go to greet him, he called out to me saying, "Honey, I'm home!"  When I heard him say that, I was awestruck, I felt butterflies in my stomach and my heart swelling with love for him. I realized that I had never imagined hearing such a thing from anyone...  I rushed to the hallway where he was there smiling, briefcase in hand. As he set down his things, he said, "I love you, Dear Heart" and then he gave me a sweet and gently passionate kiss as we embraced one another...

I've never forgotten that day and that brief shining moment of joy and this song reminds me of it.

I am always remembering...

"Reflections On Married Life..."

Our home decorated for the holidays...

Looking back on 2015, I have to admit that it was a fantastic year, the highlight of which was the adoption of our two young sons being finalized and the arrival of our first grandson...

To celebrate, we took a family trip over Christmas to Nevada, Arizona and Utah where the boys met their new big brother Marvin and his family including our new grandson Titus, born just days before Christmas...

Porch pots bedazzled and dressed in their winter coats of evergreen...

Looking down our street, even Detroit's new street lights sparkled with holiday cheer...

This year's Christmas Tree, another masterpiece by Poppa Eddie

Homemade Christmas Cookies made by Poppa Chris and Dustin

Up early on Christmas Morning to see what Santa had brought...

Since both Dustin and "Meechie" have expressed some musical aptitude...

Joni found his gift from Santa right away and declared it "very comfortable..."

A couple of happy kids on Christmas morning...

A happy Poppa Eddie and son Dustin...

"Meechie" doing his Lenny Kravitz pose...

After breakfast, it was off to the airport for a Christmas Day flight to sunny (but actually chilly) Las Vegas, Nevada

Our Christmas Dinner Show, "The Tournament of Kings" at the Hotel Excalibur

Thrilled about the all-you-can-eat buffets...

Then a drive up through the mountains to Provo, Utah...
My oldest son Marvin lives here with his wife and three beautiful children

Three generations: Grandpa Christopher, Proud Son and Poppa Marvin and Baby Titus

Now home and enjoying some quality time with our children, I can say without hesitation, it does get better...
