The funny thing is, many of you won't know what this thing is...
I remember this one well, it was one of the first truly affordable VCRs
(1979 $1,149.99 MSRP / $4,776.99 today)
I remember the first US models from Sony costing a cool $4995 just five years earlier
And of course, those who bought Betamax units ended up with a dinosaur as the format war was won by JVC's VHS system
I bought my first VCR in 1983 with my first credit card. I ordered it from an insert in my Diners Club statement for $999.99 with 10 easy payments of $99.99. It was a top-of-the-line JVC VHS model. It was stolen in a break-in sometime around 1986. I remember quite distinctly that when it was stolen there was a tape in it with an off-the-air recording of Prince performing his 1984 hit "Purple Rain."
Dang... I'm old!
You are not the only person who is getting old, I remember when
ReplyDeletethat came out, and it was the price of a used car. Amazing how
quickly technology changed.
