"The Spring Garden..."

I am absolutely exhausted today... Ed's been busy too. Yesterday I tended the gardens and the yards and installed a new awning over our upstairs patio. Nevertheless, today I've got lots of outdoor project to complete, including touching up the paint on the outdoor furniture and planting more containers. Home has always been important to me. When we were raising our children, Ed and I always wanted it to feel like a sanctuary for them, they'd had such a hard start to their lives.

Above, are some views of parts of our back gardens. While we're waiting on the hydrangeas and roses, and summer annuals to start their prolific bloom, the alliums had ideas of their own and put on a most spectacular fireworks show this year.  Did you know that alliums are basically beautifully flowering onions and garlic?

Allium is a genus of monocotyledonous flowering plants with hundreds of species, including the cultivated onion, garlic, scallion, shallot, leek, and chives. The generic name Allium is the Latin word for garlic, and the type species for the genus is Allium sativum which means "cultivated garlic."

More views from our "Home in the Woods" soon...*

P.S. Yes, those are pink flamingos! They were a birthday present for Ed a couple of years ago.

* We live in the middle of the city... "Home in the Woods" is an homage to my mother's birthplace and the name of our subdivision "Russell Woods."
