Tonight, the 1st legal marriages for same-sex couples will take place in the great state of Minnesota. And while these will be considered the "first" in the state's history, there is a historic "other first." Believed to be the first same-sex marriage anywhere in the United States, the marriage of Jack Baker and Michael McConnell in 1971 was a history making event that sent repercussions throughout the nation as same gender loving people began to demand their civil rights and equality under the law.
Here is film of that "first" marriage. Jack and Michael are still together in love more than 40 years later. They have no plans to marry as they are already married and the longevity of their love proves it.
