American Hero, Chelsea Bradley Manning
Yesterday, a military courts martial sentenced Chelsea Bradley Manning to 35 years in prison, a dishonorable discharge and forfeiture of her military pay.
Although he expressed regret for some of the outcomes of his actions, I believe that Chelsea Bradly Manning is an American Hero. She saw clear and evident proof that our nation was committing crimes against humanity and she took the only action she thought she could to bring those violations of our core beliefs to the attention of her fellow citizens and the world.
Despite what our government has concluded, in my humble opinion she acted in the finest traditions of the United States Military and the U.S. Army. We are taught in military indoctrination training (boot camp) that we have absolutely no obligation to obey unlawful and unconstitutional orders and that in-fact to do so is a crime itself. Keeping her knowledge of the egregious and ongoing wrongdoing taking place a secret was an unlawful order of the highest magnitude.
Chelsea Bradley Manning is a hero.
