"Same Gender Loving People - No. 4517"

"Love Is A Series Of Moments In Time..."

Positive images of people like me... The truth of the matter is that we all need to see people like ourselves. So everyday, I'll post a photo, drawing or some other artwork that depicts Same Gender Loving People as what we are... Only Human.

"The Imitation Of Life..."

What I Like About This: This scene from "Call Me By Your Name" shows us the joy and freedom of youth that I dared not even dream about in my own younger years.  But of course this is why I love cinema, for though it, you can transit time and space, to if only for a moment, vicariously live the things you only dreamed of, and perhaps be inspired to seek them out for yourself... And that is the power and the magic of the cinema.

"The Views To Love..."

What I Like About This: This couple in just a couple of selfies show us what love should be like... silly, fun, close and intimate, filled with happy moments of joy being in the world together.

"A Touch Of Earthly Years  -  2019"
Oil on Wooden Panel
Christopher Orr

What I Like About This: I love the coloring and tonal effects the artist achieved here, but interestingly the thing I most like is the artist's title for the work and his principal subject.  His work speaks to the ethereal nature of our time here on Earth which his title alludes to. Moreover, like me, his subject is a man not in the blossom of youth, but in later life, maybe around my own age... Taken together, these things provoke you to examine the painting more closely looking for the artist's intended meaning.

"We Were Always There..."

What I Like About This: This image is from the pages of an 1890s photo album.  This is the only image of these two included in it.  Who took this photo?  Why did they pose for this?  And, what's the significance of the title they apparently added, "Me and him"?  I'd like to believe that they were a couple in love, maybe the actually thought of themselves as "Us." And perhaps this photo was sent to an understanding relative who decided to preserve it as a record of their love in a time when such things weren't spoken of .

"The Imitation Of Life..."

What I Like About This: This scene featuring Vιnce VaÏ…gнn & Vιggo MorÑ‚enÑ•en from Psycho (1998) reminds me of my own very awkward encounter with the first man I ever kissed..  We'd struck up a long distance friendship by email and when I was in his city on business, we decided to meet for dinner.  And although the chemistry between us was instant, when he asked, "Can I kiss you?" my reaction was a lot like Vince Vaughn's.  Luckily, he didn't wait for my answer and it was the beginning of a very sweet and passionate love affair that I still remember fondly. That first kiss confirmed all my reasons for coming out and answered 40 years of self-questioning about whether I was gay.

"The Views To Love..."

What I Like About This: I love to witness same-sex public displays of affection (PDA).  It reminds me that we (sometimes) live in a brave new world where we can be free to love whom we love.  I work in a very public venue visited by thousands each day and I daily see heterosexual PDA happening openly and without any care or concern. But SGL/Gay PDA in that same setting has been incredibly rare... I've seen it in-person, perhaps only twice in what I estimate to have been more than 3 million people I've come into contact with at work in last 5 years.  As for myself, I can only recall fewer than 5 times since I came out 18 years ago when I've felt brave enough to hold hands, or kiss my partner in a public setting... I'm happy for this generation's freedom and bravery.

"The Truth About What I Think..."

I remember this like it was yesterday...

And yet, here we are again...
What's wrong with the people in Florida?

Will we ever be free of ignorant hatred?

I remember her campaigning against gay rights and how fearful it made me feel as I had long since realized that I was one of the dreaded homosexuals that she so abhorred.
I was literally and figuratively in the closet.

"The Artist's Corner..."

Wade Reynolds
1966

What I Like About This: The composition of this work is unusual. The setting is unclear, it's almost as if the model is emerging from a stone wall. When I look at this painting it evokes thoughts of "coming-out..." a naked rebirth into a new life and freedom from an imprisonment in the stone façade of lies and fears that rule lives lived in secret. I also have to say, I enjoy noting that the subject appears to be a man who is a person of color, and so for me, I can imagine that we share other experiences of this life as well.
