It's been at least 15 years since I've posted one of these cinema reviews... A truth about me is that I love film and television from other countries and cultures. To my mind, the ability to glimpse into a culture not your own and learn that the fundamental truth of being human is that we're all the same from something as simple as watching a film is one of the modern era's greatest achievements.
Early this morning (I'm usually up well before dawn, ever since bootcamp), I decided I'd watch a foreign military themed film in honor of Veterans Day. And as I looked through my choices, I stumbled across this highly acclaimed 2022 gem from Austria. I'm convinced that if you have an hour and 26 minutes to spare today, you won't be sorry spending it watching this film. If you've served in the military you'll easily identify with every character and be reminded of your own experiences of the joys and pains of military service.
I won't spoil the film for you by sharing more of the storyline, but I will tell you that the cathartic ending left me in tears; and as all well-told stories do, wanting more. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5.
