What I Like About This: Here are two WWII era Soviet sailors in an embrace before a kiss. While in that era it was not uncommon for comrades in arms to greet one another with embraces and kisses without their being any homosexual attraction or intention, the embrace of these two is just a bit too intense to be read as merely friendly. Clearly the kiss that was missed by the camera was on the lips, also too intimate to read as merely friendly. And lastly, as is often the case in photographs revealing true couples and their relationships, we have one enthusiastic partner (on the left) and one who seems a bit reserved about revealing too much. We can't know if what I see here was true, but we do know that "we were always there."
