"The Truth About Life..."

I've always believed that I'm a very empathetic person... I really try to understand where people are coming from.  

Yesterday at work, a colleague whose wife had worked for me in my department came over to me and thanked me for everything I did for them when their marriage had been in crisis over the last few years.  I honestly don't know exactly what I did that was worthy of thanks, but my response to him was simply, "I understand how life is..."
