The mystery man who smooched Sam — the first openly gay professional football player, who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams — is Vito Cammisano, Texas native and fellow University of Missouri alum who was on the school’s swim team. The mystery man who kissed Michael Sam after the openly gay football star was drafted by the St. Louis Rams is Vito Cammisano, reports said Sunday.
Cammisano is a 2013 University of Missouri graduate who competed on the school’s swim team. The Mizzou communications major came out in 2011, according to the website OutSports.
Sam, 24, who grew up in Galveston, Tex., was a four-year star on the school’s football team.
He received a shout-out from President Obama late Saturday.
“From the playing field to the boardroom, LGBT Americans prove everyday that you should be judged by what you do and not who you are,” said Obama.
With the whole country watching Saturday, the defensive end smashed cake into his boyfriend’s face and then gave him a big kiss.
The tearful couple shared the incredible moment inside Sam’s agent’s San Diego home.
“Wow. What a day. On cloud 9. So proud and happy!” Cammisano tweeted with a photo of the cake-smeared smooch.
Sam retweeted the post.
The two have been dating for several months, according to their social media posts.

The 23-year-old’s Instagram feed features fun photos of him and Sam traveling, sharing drinks and hanging out at home.
Sam was picked in the seventh and final round of the NFL draft after an agonizingly long wait.
The All-American and SEC Defensive Player of the Year was a standout at Missouri, but his relative lack of size and speed kept him out of the early rounds.
Gay rights advocates were concerned that his homosexuality might scare some teams away and Sam expressed frustration that he was selected so late in the draft.
“From last season alone, I should’ve been in the first three rounds,” he said Saturday after he and the Rams made history.
“They saw Michael Sam, day after day they scratched it off the board. That was their loss. But St. Louis kept me on the board.”
Rams replica jerseys with Sam’s name on the back are reportedly flying off the rack with fans scrambling to order online.
