As it turns out, Amtrak, America's national rail service provider wants our (LGBTIAQ) business. They're featuring images like these in sponsored articles in gay media. They're promoting the benefits of rail travel as the new gay-friendly way to go and hoping to attract our business by touting:
Comfortable & Spacious
Friendly Service & Amenities
Convenient Schedules & Arrive Downtown
******
Sounds great, but I think they've got their work cut out for them, especially with the recent U.S. rail incidents in Ohio, unlike in most of Europe, US passenger traffic shares the rails with freight. And then there's also the recent railway tragedy in Greece to consider.
I haven't been on Amtrak in many years, but the last time I did ride the rails, it was an unqualified nightmare. Something they don't show here, but that I experienced was that you'll find everyone that's been banned by airlines (think: crazy nightmare travelers) and those who've been lucky enough to make it onto the government's "No-fly" lists on the train with you. But perhaps I'm being too cynical, things can and do change, so who knows, maybe husband and I will give it a try someday soon.
