In every conflict from the first battle to the last skirmish, America's LGBTQ citizens have served and defended her. In her wars from the Battle for Independence to the horrific conflicts she's embroiled in today, many were called upon to give the last full measure of devotion to a nation that for most of her history, has treated them as less than and unworthy. Today, celebrate the contributions of those who served in silence and of the new generation who serve openly and with pride determined to never let the hands of time be turned back on our freedoms.
"When Americans remember and honor those who gave their lives fighting it never occurs to them that some of the strongest, bravest, and most heroic were also gay. It is time for us, as a community,
to remedy that."
- Leonard Matlovich, The Advocate, 1987
"As of today, patriotic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love..."
- Barrack Obama, Announcing the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell in 2011
"Fear Eats the Soul"
