"The Truth About The Journey To Freedom..."


Next week, we'll likely have our final day in court that will win once and for all our fight for marriage equality... Many organizations have been instrumental in getting us to this momentous and historic point in our nation's history.  But beyond the court battles, we had to win the hearts and minds of our friends and neighbors and it was through our portrayal in popular culture that we won that most important battle...

ACLU Releases Supercut Of Pop Culture's Journey Towards Marriage Equality ​

Forty-five years ago, the ACLU filed the first freedom-to-marry lawsuit in the United States. Today, we're on the brink of the Supreme Court ruling on whether or not the right to same-sex marriage is constitutionally protected nationwide.

In anticipation, the ALCU released a supercut this week of some of the most influential queer moments in pop culture over the past several decades. From "Will and Grace" to "The Golden Girls" to "Orange Is The New Black," take a look back at some of the moments that paved the way for public support surrounding queer identity to reach a place where this conversation could take place at the legislative level.
