Missouri’s Michael Sam, the SEC defensive player of the year and the first openly gay player in the NFL, was the 249th pick in the league’s 2014 draft Saturday.

Dallas sports anchor Dale Hansen, who you may remember from an on-air speech defending Sam’s coming out in February, again took to the air celebrating and also defending the openly gay player from homophobic tweets.

Hansen addressed former Texas Longhorns quarterback Case McCoy’s outrage on twitter over ESPN showing Sam kiss his boyfriend:

“Which is ironically what most Texas fans said when Case McCoy ran onto the football field,” Hansen quipped.

Hansen also had this to say about Sam being the 249th pick: “Now you’ll never convince me there were 248 better college players… and better NFL prospects… in that draft. Two-hundred and forty-eight better than the SEC’s defensive player of the year? There’s just no way.”

Hansen said that he has worked with many gay men in his long career at WFAA and has never once encountered any problems or ever been hit on by them. And that pisses him off Hansen joked, because he was a good looking guy back in the day.

********

Thank You (again) Dale Hansen!
