John Banvard, a World War II veteran married his partner Gerard Nadeau, a Vietnam veteran at a Chula Vista, California VA Retirement Home where they have lived together for the last 3 years. Despite not all of the other residents supporting their decision to marry, even those opposed agreed that they had earned the right to equality in marriage and the legal recognition of their love. Banvard and Nadeau who have been together as couple for over 20 years said they'd been waiting for the Supreme Court's historic ruling to celebrate and formalize their long-standing relationship.
