A Thought To Ponder..."
You see, love is strong. Stronger than hate even. Love is the only thing that can kill hate, nothing else. You see, hate destroys and that's why love is stronger. It builds.

That all its object and affection finds
In the mere contact of encircling arms!

"The Truth About Love..."
Those who are gone, you have. Those who departed loving you, love you still; and you love them always. They are not really gone, those dear hearts and true; they are only gone into the next room; and you will presently get up and follow them, and yonder door will close upon you, and you will be no more seen.
- William Makepeace Thackeray

Steve Walker
What I Like About This: Here is one of the rare works by Walker set in a season other than summer. It depicts two gay men (perhaps a couple) on a bench outside a church. Perhaps this was a indictment of the exclusion of gay and lesbian people from the "blessings" of the church. In anycase, I appreciate Walker's attention to detail and the emotive qualities of his stylized realism has always impressed me.

A Thought To Ponder..."
Life is too short to not spend it with the people you love, I murmured. Did you just read an Instagram caption? my boyfriend asked. I huffed. I said that it was a midnight musing--not an Instagram caption. But it's true. To me, at least. From reading children's books to books about death and illness and meaning and regret, I gather that this abstraction--love!--that poets wax on about and singers warble on about and writers scribble on about is what matters most. It isn't money or material items or career or achievements or resumé markers or positions or charm. It's the simple, deceptively simple! equation of existence: to love and to be loved.

That answers to love's whispered plan,
And gladly owns its paradise
To be love's perfect sacrifice.

"Just For Fun..."
Two dogs and a black cat had died and went to the animal afterlife. The Great Deity Of All Animals looked down at the trio from its throne, and said to one of the dogs, a German shepherd, “What do you believe?”
The dog said, “I believe in loyalty to my master and protecting him and his family.”
The Great Deity said, “That is a worthy belief. Take your place beside my throne.”
Then the Great Deity said to the other dog, a collie, “What do you believe?”
The dog said, “I believe in loyalty to my master and helping him in his work - oh, and finding Timmy when he falls into a well.”
The Great Deity said, “That is a worthy belief. Take your place on the other side of my throne.”
Then the Great Deity said to the cat, “What do you believe?”
The cat said, “I believe,” then she paused to lick her paw and groom her ears, “I believe that you are sitting in my chair.

What I Like About This: Two sailors in intimate embrace, one swooning in the other's arms, lips pursed for a kiss... Is this horseplay or truth on display, we'll never know, but we do know that "we were always there."

What I Like About This: These works of tastefully homoerotic art are by the contemporary Belgian artist Wim Beullens. A master of drawing in graphite, charcoal and coloured pencil, Beullens captures nuanced details and creates works of idealized masculinity.
