I love the way music can take you out of the world and change your entire mood and outlook on life...  This beautifully haunting and  melodious composition is one of those songs with the power to do just that.

This is the main theme from the 2008 Japanese film, "Departures".  The film is widely regarded as a masterpiece of the cinematic arts, wining numerous prizes, including the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

"The film follows a young man who returns to his hometown after a failed career as a cellist and stumbles across work as a nōkanshi—a traditional Japanese ritual mortician. He is subjected to prejudice from those around him, including from his wife, because of strong social taboos against people who deal with death.
