Her real name is "Liberty Enlightening the World"
and in addition to commemorating the 1876 American Centenial,
She was intended to also commemorate
America's abolition of slavery at the end of the civil war
"The broken chains of slavery beneath the feet of Lady Liberty"
And yet, some 244 years later, America has yet to fulfill her promise and right her wrongs inflicted upon the children of those she enslaved and whose labor built the wealth of the new nation.
