Cruz will wear rainbow outfit for featherweight title.

He squares off against Orlando Salido at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Cruz will carry the LGBT equality rights on his clothing with him into the ring on Saturday (12 October). If he wins he will be the first openly-gay world champion in boxing history.

Cruz’s fighting style has earned him a world title shot, and the 32-year-old has been given the kit by Everlast as he bids to win the vacant WBO belt. The boxing brand and Cruz collaborated together on the style to contribute to the LGBT movement.

He will be sporting pink gloves to highlight breast cancer awareness month.

Cruz also finally spoke about being a gay role model in the boxing world. Cruz told Yahoo Sports: ‘Boxing is a macho sport, everyone yelling gay slurs all the time. I was scared. I was worried about other boxers. I was worried about the fans. I would cry many, many nights thinking about it.’
