Born Ben Haggerty June 19, 1983 in Washington state, the now famous rapper (and friend to GLBT people everywhere) Macklemore turns 30 years old today. Together with his friend and creative partner Ryan Lewis, they are well known in GLBT circles for their equality affirming song and video "Same Love." The duo subsequently rose to international fame with their hit single and music video "Thrift Shop." Their debut album, "The Heist" immediately shot to #1 on the iTunes charts and debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts.
Before finding fame and critical acclaim, Macklemore began rapping at age 14. He cites the rapper Nas as a major early influence on his musical style. He has earned a Bachelor’s degree at Evergreen State College and he got engaged to Tricia Davis in 2013.
