While there is much that could easily be considered humorous about Michigan Assistant Attorney General Andrew Shirvell, I believe that the truth of the matter is that he is a deeply disturbed, self-loathing, closeted gay man acting out against his own demons. And although it's comical that he and his actions have been satirized in this way, there are legions of bigoted homophobes that not only support his message but are emboldened by his actions and who will take their hatred to similar extremes.
My sincere hope for Andrew Shirvell is that he can find within himself the strength and courage that all gay men and women must find to come to terms with the reality of our hearts, minds and souls... It's okay to be as you are - God has made no mistake in you.
