This morning, I got out my old medals and ribbons from my time in our country's military. As I looked at the mementos of my years of service, I couldn't help but reflect upon the fact that while I would have happily laid down my life to defend my country, even these many years later, I am denied the most basic of human rights... to live and love openly in the land of freedom and the home of the brave.
I'll never live in fear or hide in the shadows again... The freedom of GLBT people will come only when we are honest and open about who we are...
