"Love's Journey In Michigan..."

Couples line up for marriage licenses at the Washtenaw County Clerk's Office in Ann Arbor
Yesterday in some Michigan counties, county clerks opened their offices to afford same-sex couples the opportunity to be married following Friday's historic ruling striking down the state's same-sex marriage ban. Sadly, in Michigan's largest city, Detroit, the Wayne County Clerk did not follow suit and so those living in the state's most populous county and it's largest city will be forced to wait for a further decision from the courts. (Michigan law requires at least one person being married to be a resident of the county issuing the license.)

Jim Shaffer, left, and his partner of 11 years Jason McIntosh and their daughter 3-month-old Norah Shaffer-McIntosh, prepare to marry Saturday, Mar. 22, 2014 at the Oakland County Courthouse

Long lines form at the Oakland County Courthouse in Pontiac for couples wanting to legally marry

Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown officially marries the first gay couple Frank Colasonti 61, of Birmingham and his partner of 26 years James Barclay

Although the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio granted a temporary stay on Saturday evening, marriages will soon resume in Michigan... Love will prevail.
