"And Now There Are Seventeen..."

Congratulations New Mexico!

Yesterday, New Mexico's State Supreme Court ruled unanimously that state laws that “have the effect of precluding same-gender couples from marrying” violate the equal protection guarantee of the state constitution.

“We hold that the State of New Mexico is constitutionally required to allow same-gender couples to marry,” wrote the court, “and must extend to them the rights, protections, and responsibilities that derive from civil marriage under New Mexico law.”

With this latest victory on the road to national marriage equality, now more than 1/3 of the states and more than 1/3 of the population live in marriage equality states!
