As a boy, I loved fairy tales. I remember reimagining so many of the bedtime stories that our parents read to my little sister and me...
Of course I never told anyone that in my head there were two handsome princes, or that the 'sleeping beauty' was actually me.
I had a truly vivid imagination as a young boy. I dreamed of all sorts of "Happily Ever Afters" with "Jack and Joe," "Raggedy Andrew and Andy," and even "Adam and Steve!"
As I grew older and left childhood behind me, I came to believe that all of it could never be more than just the secret dreams of a scared little boy. But then, just like the magic in fairy tales, as I entered midlife after decades of loneliness, it seemed the world changed in the blink of an eye. What had been a relentless downward spiral into fear and self loathing suddenly turned into radiating possibilities of hope and dreams of love and life that could really come true for me.
Now that I am old enough to clearly see my sunset approaching, in quiet moments I find myself looking back on it all and I am amazed that for so many of us who dared dream of such things, many of those dreams came true.
