First Ever Real-Life Couple Marry In Corrie’s Rovers Return

A gay couple have become the first ever to marry in Coronation Street’s famed Rovers Return Inn.

Coronation Street has seen over 102 on-screen weddings in its 53 years on air, but Paul Johnston and Andy Daniel from London became the first real-life couple to marry at the Inn.

They were able to do so as they said their vows in the pub at Coronation Street The Tour.

While the couple exchanged vows behind the bar in the Rovers, 32 guests looked on.

Paul Johnston, 33, a TV Journalist told ITV News: “I’m on such a high, everything about the ceremony and venue is so special. You could tell that all the guests had a good time which means such a lot to us.”

Andy Daniel, 37, an Events Director said: “I’m really happy that we have been able to give our families and friends such a truly memorable experience. We’ve also made soap history by having a wedding without a punch up!”

After toasting their marriage in the bar, the couple took advantage of the opportunity to have wedding photos around the set of the ITV soap.

Johnston continued: “I’ve written about soap weddings for years so I thought it would be fun to have one of my own, only slightly less eventful and without any births, deaths or long lost children showing up during the ceremony.”

Never heard of Coronation Street?  Then you must be an American, most of the rest of the English speaking world know of Coronation Street as the world's longest running television drama.

I first began watching Coronation Street in the 1970s when it was a staple on Canadian television we could watch from across the border.

Congratulations Paul and Andy!
