"The Truth About Hate..."

I've always enjoyed ABC's "WWYD."  This program displays the truth and stark reality of human nature and the state of social progress in America.  This timely episode on race reveals the truth about hateful attitudes inspired by ignorance.

I for one, was not at all shocked or surprised by Paula Dean's recently revealed comments and attitudes.  They are part and parcel of life in America.  I've been exposed to racists (who were unsurprisingly, not all white) and their ignorant comments and actions.

This episode of "WWYD" was particularly disturbing and poignant... My son Marvin, who is a black man, lives in the college town of Provo, Utah where he went to college and met his wife (who is Latina) and he has shared many stories of meeting people just like those shown here.  I worry everyday about my two beautiful little granddaughters who as the one elderly lady put it, "will be beat down everyday because they're half-black... half breeds."

Despite all the progress in the 50 years since Dr. King successfully brought the issues of racism, justice and equality to the consciousness of a troubled nation, we clearly have a long way to go before we can say we've realized his dream.
