Tammy Smith, a 26 year Army veteran was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General at a pinning ceremony presided over by her wife, Tracey Hepner and attended by70 friends, family members and supports.
Although certainly not America's first gay general officer, Tammy will forever hold the distinction of being the first able to openly and proudly serve.
