"And The Truth Shall Set You Free..."

Once again, a closeted conservative politician has been forced to confront the truth...

As reported in The Commecial Appeal newspaper, Greg Davis, mayor of Southaven, Mississippi already in the midst of financial scandal, inadvertently outed himself when in an attempt to reduce the debt state auditors say he must repay for unauthorized charges he made to his city credit cards, submitted a receipt for purchases he made on an official trip to Canada from a store named Priape, described on its website as "Canada's premiere gay lifestyle store and sex shop."

I have yet to read of Davis' statements and positions on GLBT issues, but from the following statement, I think it's safe to say they won't be favorable... “While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual — and still continue to be a very conservative individual."

As I have pointed out many times, the lengths to which you will allow internalized self-loathing homophobia to drive you are sometimes beyond belief.  Like many others before him, Davis is married with children, outwardly living a lie while inwardly struggling with the truth of his innate and immutable sexual orientation.

Having once lived in a closet like his, I wish him well on his journey to truth.  The truth does set you free, but the cost of freedom is never free.
